What are we doing about travel in the face of Coronavirus Covid-19?

We realize that for many, the situation right now can be scary. While we do not have any sort of crystal ball to predict the future, we are choosing to share decisions that we have made over the past few weeks.
Keep in mind there are great resources to keep an eye on to make your own decisions:
and countless international and country-specific resources.
Ultimately, remain informed, practice diligent hygiene, and utilize the information to make your decisions that suit you and abide by any imposed restrictions.
April is right around the corner! That means that we are scheduled to take our annual wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii and Aulani! But maybe not this year...
As many of you know, Ed has been battling brain cancer like a champ. While it isn't easy, he is doing relatively well following a craniotomy, and remains on a maintenance chemo regimen. He is officially cleared for air travel, but we decided several weeks ago that a flight to Hawaii might not be the best "first flight" following his surgery and in the midst of treatment.
Instead, we have a trip scheduled to visit Disneyland! We have special things scheduled for our anniversary, and look forward to experienced the Food and Wine festival at California Adventure. At least, we did...
While there is still much to be learned about the spread of Covid-19 in the United States, we still know one thing for certain - Ed falls under the category of "immunocomprimised." His blood work has all been good to date, and he doesn't show any indications of immunity issues, but he still falls under that category. He is in active chemo-therapy for the next many weeks. Because of this, we have collectively decided that air travel was not the best option for us currently.
Instead, we have booked a long weekend in the Miami area. We are hoping to be able to do this trip instead, but are also remaining appropriately cautious.
This has led us to a difficult decision. We live in the Orlando area, we have the theme parks in our backyard, and that is not by accident. We love having that outlet for fun and relaxation. And we love being able to share that with all of you! Ed is in his next round of chemo this week. He has to take this medication every night. Although he has been feeling great and you have seen him in the parks and in videos, this reminds both of us that Ed is technically immunocompromised. We have decided to step back significantly from the theme park environment to make sure he can maintain how well he is progressing.
We don't take this decision lightly. And we hope that it will be short-lived as we learn more about how Covid-19 is evolving in the United States. But until we do, it helps us to take a small step in protecting our greater community. We are not suggesting that you do the same, necessarily, but we are urging that you be considerate, wise, and respectful of all of your friends, neighbors, and fellow travelers. Some of us believe that this virus is blown out of proportion, while some of us are self-isolating in extreme caution. Whichever end of the spectrum you personally lean towards, I think we can all agree on a few things:
There is no reason that you shouldn't pause regularly in your day to wash your hands, AND WASH THEM WELL! (Yes, we've seen you all leaving the restrooms at Disney without approaching a sink - yes, you).
Take care of yourself - don't run yourself ragged in any environment, including the theme parks. Your body needs to be in its best shape to fight any seasonal invader.
Stay home when you don't feel well - this is where we fail the most!
Be respectful of coworkers or employees who choose to stay home when they don't feel well - they are also protecting all of us.
Aside from that, we will take it day-by-day to see how everything progresses. You may see an increase in our blog posts, as we can't easily produce travel videos without traveling - theme parks included. We hope to get to Miami next month, and we will keep you posted.
Let's all work together diligently to protect one another, and come out traveling on the other side of this virus! We look forward to seeing you there!
